About

Hi, I’m Cameron. I build websites for local businesses.

I’m a software engineer based in Southwest Washington. Graft Labs LLC is my small web design business for small, local businesses: trades, notaries, realtors, small shops and more. You deal with me directly, by email or phone.

I’ve been building websites and software for more than a decade.

My background

Not my first time working with small businesses.

Earlier on, I ran my own small web design and SEO practice for local businesses, so I have done this kind of work for small business owners before.

Since then I’ve worked as a software engineer on larger products and have led engineering teams on projects at scale. That is why I care about sites that are fast, secure and easy to maintain, and why I keep what I build simple.

Graft Labs brings that experience to small, local businesses, with a plain process and prices you can read.

How I work

Sample first. Your input. Pay if you want it.

  • I make the sample first

You get a free live demo of your homepage before any money changes hands. It sits at its own unlisted link, hidden from search engines, it is yours to ignore, and it is available for 10 days, then it expires if you pass.

  • You give input

Tell me what to change, or ask for one of the other named styles. All of that happens before you pay.

  • Prices are plain and written down

One build price and one monthly care plan. Every build is paid in two halves, 50% to start and 50% at launch. No hourly surprises.

  • A workshop behind the curtain

There’s a workshop behind the curtain: tools I wrote and don’t share, which do the heavy lifting on every build. You get a hand-finished site at a price that shouldn’t be possible. You also get me, an engineer, direct and not a rep at a large firm who deals with customers but doesn’t understand code or site design.

Away from the screen

Why I build websites.

Outside of work I’m a homesteader in training. My real dream is a small hobby farm with bees, chickens, rabbits and goats, a good number of fruit trees and plenty of vegetable gardens. I’m slowly working toward it, one project at a time.

I’m a firm believer in local business. A town is only as strong as its small businesses, and I’d like to help each one stay visible, be found and keep its customers close to home, wherever home is.

Building websites for local businesses is how I’m paying for that dream, and it’s steady, honest work I enjoy for its own sake. It also gives me a lot of respect for people who run a small business and do the work themselves.

Where the name comes from

Why “Graft Labs”.

The name is a gardening term: you graft a branch onto a healthy root so it grows as one plant. That is the job here, joining your business to a site that holds up.

What you can expect

Plain commitments.

  • Replies by email

Starter replies within 2 business days, Growth within 1, Pro the same business day. Business days are Monday to Friday. This is not a 24/7 service.

  • Your domain, your content

Your domain is in your name (bring one you have, or I walk you through buying one), and your content and photos are yours. I host the site as part of your care plan.

  • No lock-in, and I prove it

Ask for a downloadable snapshot of your site any time. Cancel the care plan whenever you like and you leave with a final snapshot, the finished site files, and I remove my access within 5 business days. I’d rather earn your subscription every month than trap you in it.

  • Honest limits

I build brochure sites. I don’t promise rankings, traffic or phone calls, and I’ll tell you plainly when something isn’t a fit.

Details are on the pricing and FAQ sections of the home page. Read the full terms and privacy policy any time.

Get started

Want to see your homepage first?

Tell me about your business and I’ll build a free sample. Tell me what you’d change, or ask for another one.

I check that every sample request comes from a real business, usually by looking up your site or listing. It keeps the free samples free.
